The Black Culture Box curates books that reflect the best of Black Culture and our communities across the globe.
The words of Langston Hughes and Toni Morrison, the sounds of Billie Holiday and lyrics of Kendrick Lamar, the speeches of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the fearlessness of Harriet Tubman and the images of Gordon Parks reflect and have helped define Black Culture.
Books are like windows allowing children to view the world, see different cultures, neighborhoods and imagine a world of limitless possibilities. The Black Culture Box was created because 79% of Black children ages 3-5 are read to by a family member three or more times per week. Busy parents, caregivers and other caring adults are constantly challenged to find culturally relevant books for the children in their lives. Our goal is to take the frustration and disappointment out of having access to limited quantities of books when starting or adding to the home library of the children you care about. We curate the books based on the age of your child and send them to you with no hassle. Our subscription service is on its way, but this holiday season, you are able to experience what The Black Culture Box offers for a limited time.
Research shows that many neighborhoods in urban cities no longer have bookstores. In the District of Columbia’s Anacostia neighborhood there is just 1 book for every 830 children. You can buy now to ensure the children in your home and extended family have access to culturally relevant books.
Team BCB affirms that Black people need to be purveyors and consumers of the things that make us unique and make the rest of the world want to adopt our ways. It is why we started The Black Culture Box, to share some of the most valuable culture we have created with our community and the world. We sell high quality books that will have your young reader engaged and excited to read!
